In their report on Religious and Spiritual Plants Utilized by Ethnic Societies of Uttarkashi District of Uttarakhand they mention that Plants provide food, medicine, energy, shelter, wood and non-wood products to sustain life on earth. Uttarakhand also known as Devbhoomi, one of the Himalayan states of India is richest in resources with respect to the occurrence of religious and spiritual plants. These plants are utilized by ethnic societies of Uttarkashi district to their religious activities and are also important as food, fodder and medicine. We have identified a total of 38 plant species belonging to 26 families utilized traditionally by ethnic societies of Uttarkashi district during various religious and spiritual ceremonies. Under their leadership the research area is surely likely to expand beyond the horizons. It will be worthy to explore the further potential under their legacy. Arun K. It is hoped that this study will focus attention for need to conserve faith of our religious activities. They in turn serve to conserve biodiversity of our useful plants.
