Ramesh Chand Yadav receives International Physical Education Research Award- 2015. His research findings were published on most read journal: The Journal of Sports and Physical Education. Cardio respiratory fitness and body composition are associated with the risk of emergence of cardiovascular diseases but their interrelation to all cause and cardiovascular disease mortality is unknown. This study explored to the relationship between body composition and dimensions of VO2 max of non-obese college men. 40 unrelated normal healthy and sedentary non-obese male students randomly selected from Chaudhary Charan Singh P.G. College, Heonra, Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, India. Total body weight was determined by anthropometric. VO2 max was measured byusing Astrand-Astrand nomogram; fat mass and fat free mass were estimated by skin fold thickness. Pearson product moment correlation was used as a statistical test. Results reveal that there were significant correlation of VO2 max to total body weight and lean body weight of non-obese subjects. Whereas, insignificant correlation was found between fat percentage and VO2 max. It was concluded that the total body weight and lean body mass have a relation to VO2 max; fat percentage have no any relation to the VO2 max. Thus fatness and VO2 max should be independent factors. This study provides helps to physical education teachers and coaches the similar study may be undertaken with selecting subjects of different age group and women subjects. Non obese subject can have good aerobic power (VO2 max). Fatness and excess body weight do not necessarily imply a reduce ability to maximally oxygen consumption. Thus, fatness and VO2 max should be considered independent factors. There was no availability of sophisticated instrument for measuring VO2 max and body consumption variables accepted as a limitation for the study.....Read more

Altered neurophysiological functions are commonly seen in patients with T2DM. The present study was undertaken to study the effect of structured exercise therapy on neurophysiological functions of young patients newly diagnosed with T2DM. Methods: 60 patients with newly diagnosed T2Dm were enrolled and then divided into two groups as Diabetic control and interventional group. The structured exercise therapy was given to interventional group. 30 normal healthy sex and age matched healthy control were enrolled under normal control group. HbAIc, BMI, and neurophysiological functions were measured. Results: The analysis showed improvement in neurophysiological functions after the structured exercise therapy. Interpretation and Conclusion: Exercise therapy along with dietary control and anti-diabetic medication will have a positive influence on neurophysiological functions. Under their leadership the research area is surely likely to expand beyond the horizons. It will be worthy to explore the further potential under their legacy. Harpreet Kour, Kothiwale V.A. and Goudar S. Shivaprasad as valuable intellectuals for the India offer exclusive opportunities for scholars around the world. One of the most attractive weightage for India is to have the awardees for promotion of the concerned scientific discipline for the benefit of its civilians. Thus India which has excellent track record to produce brain storming intellectuals, has offered a new extension in terms of Harpreet Kour, Kothiwale V.A. and Goudar S. Shivaprasad to world.

The finding of this study of neurophysiological functions in adults with newly diagnosed T2DM implies that diabetic control in younger adults is a formidable challenge to the healthcare system. Exercise therapy along with dietary control and anti-diabetic medication will have a positive influence on neurophysiological functions and the low cost, non-pharmacological nature of exercise will further enhance its therapeutic appeal.

The structured exercise therapy decreases the glycated haemoglobin hence implies good control of diabetes. The BMI levels also reduced significantly with structured exercise therapy. There is statistically significant improvement in Nerve conduction velocity and Audio-Visual reaction time with structured exercise therapy in newly diagnosed patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

The magnitude for the difference in between the groups found in our study is small compared reflecting the moderately short duration of diabetes in our population. Authors could not confirm relationship between glycated hemoglobin and decline in neurophysiological parameters possibly because of relatively strict metabolic control in our diabetic population.

Authors provide recommendations for capitalize on the long-term benefits of structured exercise therapy on nerve conduction velocity, basal metabolic index and reaction time in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Authors believe the government and private funding agencies will give importance to similar studies so that alteast one parameter can be included in routine check of newly diagnosed patients with diabetes and can new policies can be framed accordingly for Indian diabetic population

Dr. Harpreet Kour and Dr. Shivaprasad S. Goudar conceived of and designed the study and designed the intervention process and evaluation procedures in accordance with Guidelines of ADA and ACSM. Dr. Harpreet Kour has participated in data management and statistical analysis. Dr. Shivaprasad S. Goudar and Dr. V.A. Why did Suicide bomber kill 45 at volleyball match in Afghanistan
News
IST

A suicide bomber blew himself up at a inter-district volleyball tournament in eastern Afghanistankilling at least 45 people in the country's deadliest terrorist attack this year. Bomber was on foot and mingling with the crowd, detonated his explosives. The bloodshed came just hours after Parliament approved agreements allowing US and NATO troops to remain in the country past the end of the year. Volleyball tournament was being attended by large crowed in Yahyakhail district late Sunday afternoon. Dozens more were wounded, many critically, said Mokhlis Afghan, spokesman for the governor of Paktika province. He said the bomber was mingling with the large crowd at the sporting event in Yahyakhail district when he set off the explosives. "There were too many people gathered in the one place to watch the game," Afghan said. Naseeb Ahmad, a doctor at Sharan Hospital in Paktika's capital, said the hospital received about 80 wounded people, 20 of them children. Officials said people of all ages were watching the adult-league inter-district tournament.

World is shocked to see this bloodshed and fading hopes of peace. But still hopes are alive.

Volleyball is a popular sport in Afghanistan, played across the country, and the attacker is likely to have targeted the event to ensure maximum casualties. It is also possible that the presence of local police in the crowd made it an attractive target, as security forces are regularly attacked by insurgents. Afghanistan's parliamentapproved agreements Sunday with the U.S. and NATO allowing international troops to remain in the country past the end of this year. Ghani's first act after becoming president was to sign the agreements, which are bitterly opposed by the Taliban and other insurgent groups. US President Barack Obama wants all US troops to be out of Afghanistan by the end of 2016, as his presidency draws to an end. Suicide bombers and their handlers are the worst sort of cowards. Since they can't convince others of their beliefs they resort to death.

No one claimed responsibility. "There were too many people gathered in the one place to watch the game. Dozens of others are wounded and we have reports that many of them are in critical condition," Afghan said. "We need urgent help from the central government because we might need to transfer wounded people to Kabul for treatment," he added. Paktika, bordering Pakistan, is one of Afghanistan's most volatile regions, where a Taliban-led insurgency is waging an intensifying war against the government in Kabul. Sunday's attack is one of the deadliest so far this year, a time when attacks are escalating alongside a contentious election and the inauguration of President Ashraf Ghani in September.
