He has guided 16 (sixteen) Ph.D. scholars and 20 (twenty) M.Phil. students in various aspects of environmental science, agricultural and biological science, mathematical science and multidisciplinary. He has visited Italy, Spain and Vietnam on academic purposes. He has been invited as Course Tutor in the Third Autumn Course in Mathematical Ecology organized by International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy in 1990. Professor Khan is presently reviewer of the Journal of Environmental Protection, International Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences, African Journal of Environmental Science and Technology, Revista Internacional Contaminacion Ambiental and International Journal of Environmental Science and Toxicology. He was the member of the editorial board of the Journal of Regional Science for nearly 10 years. He has also been invited to review the papers for the forthcoming International Conference on Agricultural and Biological Sciences in China. He has also been invited to be the Editor-in-Chief for the forthcoming Journal of Forest and Environment to be published by IDOSI. Beside founder member of the CWSS, he is also life member of many Scientific Organizations. Professor Khan has also carried out Environmental Impact Assessment studies for development projects related to coal mines, thermal power stations, irrigation and oil pipe line installations.

Dr. M. Ray obtained his M.Sc.(Ag) in the subject Agronomy from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal, India and did his Ph.D. degree from the University of Kalyani, Kalyani, West Bengal, India. He served as Meteorologist for more than six years in Water Resource Development Department, Government of West Bengal. He has published more than 20 research papers and 6 articles in international and national journals. He has written 4 book chapters in edited agronomic books.. He actively participated in many national and international scientific conferences and seminars. He is also a member of 5 scientific societies of national and international repute.

Dr. Manoj Kumar Nanda is Associate Professor in the Department of Agrimeteorology and Physics engaged in teaching, research for last fifteen years His field of specialization include, Crop Micrometeorology, Geoinformatics, Abiotic stress management of field crops and Agro-Advisory Services. He has Published 55 research papers and articles International Journals; edited 1 book and 2 Technical manuals; He has guided 3 Masters and 3 Ph. D. students. He is life member of three professional societies.

Dr. Shibani Chowdhury did her B.Sc (Ag) Hons, M.Sc. (Ag) in Agriculture Meteorology and Ph.D. from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal, India. She has been in research work since 2013 in the project “Agro-Met field Unit” Kakdwip under Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal, India as Research Assistant. She has published 4 research papers in National and International Journals. She has also actively participated in many national and international seminars. She is a member of Indian Society of Agrometerologist.

M. Ray, M.K. Nanda, S. Chowdhury and D.K. Khan from India made a historical victory over the international competition and won Hugo de Vries Research Award-2015 in Agriculture. Their research was highlighted in international media and gathered a large worldwide attention in scientific circles while it appeared in world's most read journal 'International Journal of Agriculture'. In their report on Determination of water stress of Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) through canopy temperature based indices they mention that An appropriate indicator to express the crop water stress with respect to atmospheric demand and soil moisture status is difficult to define. In that respect canopy temperature might be an effective crop water stress indicator, since it is related to evapotranspirative demand of atmosphere as well as soil moisture supply to the plant. This hypothesis was tested for chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) during 2005-06 and 2006-07 in sandy loam soils of lower Gangetic plain of West Bengal, India. The crop was sown in two dates of sowing with four levels of irrigation viz. one irrigation at branching, two irrigations at branching and pre-flowering, two irrigations at branching and pod formation and one control treatment with no irrigation. The canopy air temperature difference (CATD) at 12:30 hrs during the crop growing period reflected the soil moisture status with respect to irrigation treatments. The diurnal canopy temperature variation (CTV) showed wider range under stressed condition. The accumulated stress degree day (SDD) computed from canopy and air temperature was inversely related to both biomass and grain yield. However, further study to define threshold values of canopy temperature based indicators can be more applicable for irrigation management. Under their leadership the research area is surely likely to expand beyond the horizons. It will be worthy to explore the further potential under their legacy. M. Ray, M.K. Nanda, S. Chowdhury and D.K. Khan as valuable intellectuals for the India offer exclusive opportunities for scholars around the world. One of the most attractive weightage for India is to have the awardees for promotion of the concerned scientific discipline for the benefit of its civilians. Thus India which has excellent track record to produce brain storming intellectuals, has offered a new extension in terms of M. Ray, M.K. Nanda, S. Chowdhury and D.K. Khan to world.

The research has brought one of the major issues on water management where the finding lies that the moisture stress had great influence on thermal environment of the crop stand and it was established in the present experiment that the moisture stress of the crop can effectively be monitored by using moisture based indices, like, canopy air temperature difference (CATD) and diurnal canopy temperature variation (DCTV). Throughout the study it was identified that the highest evapotranspiration as well as seed yield can be obtained when two irrigations are given at branching and pod formation. From critical examination of canopy temperature variation during the day hours it appears that the midday canopy temperature (at 12:00 hours local time) best represents the crop water stress. The crop water stress also best manifested by canopy air temperature difference (CATD) at pre-flowering stage. Towards maturity the range of CATD gradually became narrow. Soil moisture content and CATD value are inversely proportional. The relationship of grain yield decreased with increasing stress degree day The influence of SDD was more on biomass production rather than on grain yield. However, further scope to scientific community comes with respect to micro- environmental analysis that includes both the assessment and accounting of soil-water-plant continuum that controls the thermal environment of the canopy microclimate.

ABC News Reports Crossbench still against higher education bills despite backdown

A Federal Government move to sideline a $1.9 billion budget cut to higher education courses and push ahead with fee deregulation has failed to sway the Senate crossbench. The measures — fee deregulation and the funding cut — were at the heart of the Coalition's university overhaul, which seemed doomed to fail for a second time in the Senate and have now been split into two separate pieces of legislation. The original bill faced heavy opposition, with only one crossbench senator out of eight publicly prepared to back it — far short of the six votes required. But hiving off the budget cut to a separate vote has not won over the vote — with at least five crossbench senators telling the ABC they will not vote for the core deregulation legislation.

"I don't think it's reasonable to expect I'll be fit and available for the next World Cup, so I think it's the right time." He said he hopes stepping back from the shorter form of the game will prolong his Test career. Clarke has struggled mightily with back and hamstring injuries over the past 18 months and missed the first game of the tournament, handing the captaincy to long-time stand-in skipper George Bailey for the clash with England.........
