K. Devi and S. Karunakaran receive Helen Adams Keller Research Award- 2015 in Tuberculosis

Much awaited award was announced this week. Finally India wins Helen Adams Keller Research Award- 2015 in Tuberculosis. Thousands of nominations from several countries were received for international competition. The noble work is screened which distinguish from the rest, in different aspects of the Tuberculosis. The award is introduced to highlight excellent think tanks on global platform. The research findings were published on world’s prestigious The Journal of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis. Research question: Whether modular teaching method can serve as an effective method to train medical officers in Revised National tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP). Methods: Cross sectional study was undertaken among 30 medical officers in Cuddalore district. Modular teaching was used to train medical officers to teach “RNTCP” by experts trained in RNTCP. To evaluate their individual performances both pretest and post test was conducted and in addition feedback was also elicited. Results: The overall performance was encouraging as there was significant difference between the pretest and post test scores and percentages (p<0.005). Conclusion: Modular teaching was successfully used to train medical officers in Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) in Cuddalore district. The medical officers found the modular teaching to be very interesting and useful learning tool. Some of the medical officers suggested that such method to be employed to update their knowledge in future. Modular teaching was successfully used to train medical officers in RNTCP.
