Francuois L. Müller *, Lilburne F. Cyster and Lincoln M. Raitt from Department of Biodiversity and Conservation Biology, University of the Western Cape, Bellville, South Africa and Agricultural Research Council – Animal Nutrition and Production Institute, Stellenbosch, South Africa receive Norman Ernest Borlaug Research Award-2015 in Nutrition. The National Research Foundation provided the funding to do this study. The opinions expressed and conclusions arrived at, are however those of the authors. Essential micronutrient and trace element concentrations can be increased in the edible portions of vegetable crops by the edition of micronutrient and trace element enriched fertilizers. However, in this study, the plants were grown in sand culture and the uptake of nutrients from a sandy medium differs from heavier soils.
