Pakistan Taliban kills 141 school childern in Peshawar

US President Barack Obama said terrorists had "once again shown their depravity" while UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said it was "an act of horror and rank cowardice". World reacted with anger and horror to the killing of more than a 100 Pakistani children. The attack in the north-western city is over, with all the attackers killed. Seven militants took part in operation. Scores of survivors are being treated in hospitals as frantic parents search for news of their children. The attack - the Taliban's deadliest in Pakistan - has been widely condemned worldwide. Gunman entered classroom and opened fire at random. Students (between the ages of 10 and 20 years old), and teachers  hid under desk, and shot in the head and chest. There were seven attackers, who all wore explosive vests. "The fight will continue. No one should have any doubt about it," Sharif said. "I am heartbroken by this senseless and cold-blooded act of terror in Peshawar that is unfolding before us," said Malala in a statement. I Beg Taliban, Take Me But Leave These Children, "It's the most shocking incident, in my knowledge, in my life. These children are my children": Kailash Satyarthi. Taliban spokesman Mohammed Khurasani claimed responsibility for the attack in a phone call to media, saying that six suicide bombers had carried out the attack in revenge for the killings of Taliban members at the hands of Pakistani authorities. The Pakistani military launched a widespread military operation in the North Waziristan tribal area in June, vowing that it would go after all militant groups operating in the area.

IIT-Guwahati Dean Arrested for Allegedly Raping Office AssistantThe students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Guwahati will on Wednesday take out a protest march in the wake of the arrest of the dean of academic affairs for allegedly raping an office assistant; an employee. "A case was registered against IIT Guwahati Professor Alok Kumar Ghosal at the Panbazar. IIT is India's premier engineering and management educational institute. There are 16 IITs in the country. He was brought to the police station for examination last night (Monday) and now he has been arrested," Guwahati City Senior Superintendent of Police AP Tiwari told reporters on Tuesday here. Tiwari got some evidence and found that there is a need to arrest him for proper investigation. The case against the dean has been registered under Section 376(2)(b) of IPC (public servant taking advantage of his official position and committing rape on a woman). An IIT-G official, speaking on the development, said, "A case was registered by an office assistant against our Dean, Professor Ghosal of the Chemical Engineering Department. The police had come yesterday to the IIT-G campus with a notice but as he was not present, the institute's authority accepted it and assured it would be handed to him. A source in the IIT said that Ghoshal has been removed from the administration and a new dean has been appointed. police had arrived on the campus looking for him, Ghosal had reportedly left hiring a taxi through the transportation section. The police followed him after contacting the taxi driver, and found him walking hurriedly on the Brahmaputra bridge after the vehicle was stuck in the afternoon traffic jam. The police reportedly apprehended him from there and took him to the Women Police Station where he was finally arrested. Ghosal, who had joined IIT Guwahati in 2003, had earlier served as a professor in BITS, Pilani. Elevated to the HoD of Chemical Engineering in 2005, he was later also appointed Dean of Academic Affairs in 2012. The authorities meanwhile have placed him under suspension following his arrest. Woman did not lodge a complaint with the Internal Complaints Committee and chose to go directly to the police. Before the notice could be handed to Professor Ghosal, we learnt that the police had taken him into custody outside the campus. According to the SSP, today Prof Ghosal has been arrested. The assistant made the accusation 11 days after the alleged event," the official said without mentioning the date when the complaint was made. Prof Ghosal was later produced before a local court which remanded him to judicial custody. "As he confessed to everything before production in court, police custody was not required today. If we feel the requirement, will move the court," Tiwari said. "After careful examination of facts and witnesses, we had called him and started interrogation with evidence," he said. Asked if medical tests have been done, the SSP said, "Everything has been done and being done for qualitative investigation". IIT Guwahati Professor Alok Kumar Ghosal has a B Tech degree in chemical engineering from Calcutta University and M Tech and a doctor of philosophy (chemical engineering) from IIT, Kharagpur.

The Senate approved President Obama's nomination of Dr. Vivek Murthy to serve as U.S. surgeon general, despite opposition from Republicans and some Democrats over his support for gun control.
Dailymail reported that Vivek Murthy attracted opposition from gun-rights advocates because of his belief that doctors should ask patients about guns in the home. He founded Doctors for Obama, a campaign group that supported the Obamacare law. 51-37 vote barely cleared the bar just days before the GOP takes control of the Senate and will run all its committees. Murthy, 37, a physician at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital and instructor at Harvard Medical School, won confirmation on a vote of 51-43. He's a co-founder of Doctors for America – originally called Doctors for Obama – a group that has pushed for affordable health care and supports Obama's health care law. Wyoming Republican Sen. John Barrasso said most of Murthy's career has been spent as an activist focused on gun control and other political issues, rather than on treating patients. 'Americans don't want a surgeon general who might use this position of trust to promote his own personal campaign against the Second Amendment of the Constitution,' Barrasso said. Supporters said Murthy is well-qualified and noted his promise not to use the position as a bully pulpit for gun control. The president nominated Murthy a year ago, but some Republicans and the National Rifle Association criticized his gun-control views. Senator Ted Cruz, a conservative Republican, called Murthy an “anti-gun activist.” Murthy, 37, a Yale Medical School graduate who is a physician at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital and instructor at Harvard Medical School, also advocated the Affordable Care Act, Obama's signature health initiative, which is anathema to most Republicans. However few Americans see it in racial / native color. Murthy has been endorsed by over 100 health organisations, including the American College of Physicians, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. And Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), an orthopedic surgeon, credited Murthy's academic credentials but said he is still unqualified for the position.
