20 April, 2015, India, USA NEWS CORP
Unnithan A.R., Patil S. and Unnikrishnan G. are helping to cultivate world''s future scientists. Under their leadership the research area is surely likely to excel. In historic victory the celebrity scientists: Unnithan A.R., Patil S. and Unnikrishnan G. honored with Ronald Ross Research Award-2015 in Pharmacy. Ahead of several thousands competitors, Unnithan A.R., Patil S. and Unnikrishnan G. representing India won prestigious Ronald Ross Research Award-2015 in Pharmacy. Again India has proved its International leadership via producing brilliant scientists in the form of Unnithan A.R., Patil S. and Unnikrishnan G. . IASR expressed, 'It is a privilege to have such international celebrity from Pharmacy among us who will shape the future of this domain.' Unnithan A.R., Patil S. and Unnikrishnan G. made International news headlines while IASR announced them among World’s 500 Most Influential Pharmacologists for Year 2015 on Earth.Anju R Unnithan is Research scholar in the Department of Biotechnology at Birla College of Arts Science and Commerce, Kalyan since 2012. Received M Phil in Bioinformatics from Kerala University in 2010 and M.Sc in Biotechnology from Cochin University in 2009. Research interests center on Isolation of larvicidal compounds from plants. In addition made numerous contributions in the area of molecular modelling of proteins. As of 2014, five citations in reputed international Journals for research works.
Sonali Patil has completed Post Graduation in Microbiology in 2008. Pursuing Ph.D in “Thermophilic heavy metal tolerant microorganisms ". Has been working as a faculty in Department of Bioanalytical Sciences, Birla college of Arts, Science and Commerce, Kalyan, India, for the past 5 years.
Dr. Geetha Unnikrishnan has completed Post Graduation in Zoology taking Animal Physiology as specialization in 1985. Awarded Ph.D in 2002, for the thesis titled “Effects of Antidepressants in Rats". Has been working as a faculty in Department of Zoology, Birla college of Arts, Science and Commerce, Kalyan, India, for the past 29 years. Current profile is Head and Associate Professor in Zoology, at Birla College.
Unnithan A.R., Patil S. and Unnikrishnan G. from India made a historical victory over the international competition and won Ronald Ross Research Award-2015 in Pharmacy. Their research was highlighted in international media and gathered a large worldwide attention in scientific circles while it appeared in world's most read journal ' International Journal of Pharmacy '. In their report on 3D Structure Prediction of Acetylcholineesterase in Aedes aegypti by Multitemplate Modeling they mention that Despite the increased sophistication of annotation tools, enzyme acetylcholineesterase in Aedes aegypti remains in the realm of "hypothetical proteins" with little or no structural annotation associated with it. In the present study a systemic investigation was undertaken to make use of multitemplate modeling for the prediction and validation of exact 3D structure of acetylcholineesterase enzyme in Aedes aegypti. Physicochemical properties were analysed by Protparam, 3D structure prediction was performed by multitemplate modelling method using MODELLER. The reliability assessment of generated model showed the structure quality is good and thus can be used to guide experimental designs. The structural and functional studies of this protein in Aedes aegypti can confer clues for elucidating the functions of genes and proteins underlying specific processes and that can be used to improve vector control measures. Under their leadership the research area is surely likely to expand beyond the horizons. It will be worthy to explore the further potential under their legacy. Unnithan A.R., Patil S. and Unnikrishnan G. as valuable intellectuals for the India offer exclusive opportunities for scholars around the world. One of the most attractive weightage for India is to have the awardees for promotion of the concerned scientific discipline for the benefit of its civilians. Thus India which has excellent track record to produce brain storming intellectuals, has offered a new extension in terms of Unnithan A.R., Patil S. and Unnikrishnan G. to world.
The present research predicted the 3D structure of acetylcholineesterase in Aedes aegypti. The results will definitely contribute for further structural and functional analysis of this protein.
The experimental work is accomplished by Anju R Unnithan under the guidance of Dr. Geetha Unnikrishnan. Sonali Patil helped in paper writing.
